After earning a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth in Richmond, Virginia, and working in a psychiatric hospital, Ashley Beavers, winner of an NEF Scholarship enrolled at Bon Secours Memorial School of Nursing, also in Richmond, to earn a diploma in nursing. She went on to work in a Medical/Surgical/Trauma Intensive Care Unit in a community hospital. In 2010 she returned to Virginia Commonwealth to study in the adult acute care nurse practitioner master's program. She is currently combining her nursing studies with being a wife and mother with the eventual goal of becoming a nurse practitioner/nurse educator.

NEF’s only purpose is to provide nursing scholarship assistance to make graduate level nursing education possible. NEF is the largest, single, private, professionally endorsed source of funds for advanced nursing study with over one hundred years of service to and for professional nursing.
