Emy Charlot

Emy Charlot is the proud recipient of the Mary V. Insall Scholarship. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nurse Anesthesia at Arkansas State University. Prior to entering nurse anesthesia school, Emy earned her nursing education in the United States and spent nearly a decade working as an Intensive Care Unit nurse, caring for critically ill patients during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. 

Originally from Haiti, Emy's journey into nursing began after having scoliosis surgery as a child. During that experience, she witnessed firsthand the difference that compassionate nurses can make. The kindness, skill, and support she received during a vulnerable time inspired her to pursue a career dedicated to helping others. After moving to the United States for college, she followed that calling into nursing and later discovered her passion for nurse anesthesia. Emy chose nurse anesthesia because it combines advanced clinical knowledge, critical thinking, and attention to detail. She was drawn to the opportunity to care for patients during some of their most important moments, while helping them feel safe and comfortable throughout the surgical experience.

In addition to her academic and clinical responsibilities, Emy remains active in service, leadership, and professional advocacy. She volunteers at her local hospital, supporting patients and families during difficult times. She serves as a Social Media Ambassador for the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) and as the Social Media Correspondent for her Arkansas State University nurse anesthesia cohort. Through these roles, she helps educate the public about the CRNA profession and supporting future nurse anesthetists. She is also a member of the AANA, the National Black Nurses Association, the Graduate Nursing Association, and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

After graduation, Emy hopes to practice as a CRNA while continuing to mentor future nurses and nurse anesthesia students. She also plans to remain involved in research, professional advocacy, and community outreach. Her long-term goal is to provide anesthesia care to underserved populations and participate in mission trips that bring anesthesia services to underserved countries, especially Haiti, which is near and dear to her heart. She hopes to use her education and experience to improve access to care and make a lasting difference in the lives of others.

Receiving the Mary V. Insall Scholarship is incredibly meaningful to Emy. As a first-generation college student who came to the United States from Haiti to pursue her education, she understands the value of opportunities like this. The scholarship not only helps support her journey through nurse anesthesia school but also reminds her that others believe in her goals and her ability to make a difference. Emy is grateful for the generosity behind the Mary V. Insall Scholarship and hopes to honor that investment by serving patients, mentoring future nurses, and giving back to communities in need.
