Kimether Redmon

Kimether Redmon is the recipient of the NEF Estelle Massey Osborne Memorial Scholarship. Kimether earned her bachelor’s degree in Public Health from Temple University, her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Maryland, her master’s degree in Public Health from Emory University, and is now studying at Frontier Nursing University to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. She chose Frontier Nursing University as her advanced nursing program because of their high-quality distance learning model and their top ranked program recognitions by US News & World Report.

Before becoming a nurse, Kimether worked as a Research Analyst and Project Manager coordinating local, State, and Federal research and evaluation initiatives that focused on the improvement of service delivery to youth and adults with disabilities, adults recovering from traumatic brain injuries, and marginalized populations. Kimether loved her research career but, in the back of her mind, she dreamt of one day bridging her research expertise with advanced nursing practice. It was her life-changing experience on a medical mission trip to Tanzania that gave her the courage to finally take the jump.

As a Nurse, Kimether has developed expertise in acute rehabilitation nursing and in primary care. She splits her work time between inpatient acute rehabilitation for the Veterans Health Administration and concierge primary care efforts for Crossover Health. Outside of work, Kimether enjoys serving her local community as a regular volunteer with her local church.

Kimether is a robust student leader that seeks out opportunities to leverage her leadership skills to help others discover their potential. Examples of Kimether’s current and past leadership roles include serving as President of Emory University’s Association of Black Public Health Students, Executive Council member of the Montgomery County African American Health Program, President of the University of Maryland Association of Nursing Students, and now serving as a Student Representative on Frontier Nursing University’s Student Council as well as volunteer with Frontier University’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. In nursing school, she also served as a guided study session leader and tutor. As a nursing professional, she served as an Employee Wellness champion, Vascular Access committee member, preceptor, and Unit Council volunteer. She also returns to Tanzania every other year as a coleader of medical/dental missions’ teams.

Her professional mission is to become a leader in bridging the gap between research and clinical practice. Her professional goals are to rectify fractured and unjust elements of the healthcare system, to provide exceptional, evidence based nursing care and patient education to underserved populations, to educate undergraduate and graduate nursing students in the fundamental principles of nursing research, biostatistics, cultural competency, and nursing ethics, and to mentor nurses on how to take an evaluative, holistic approach to service delivery.
