Annie George

Dr. Annie George is the Senior Director of Nursing Excellence and Research at the Office of Patient Centered Care NYC Health+ Hospitals, the largest muncipal health system in the country. In her current role at the Office of Patient Centered Care/Office of Chief Nursing Executive, Annie is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating nursing excellence designations at 11 acute care facilities, 5 post-acute, 1 correctional facility, Gotham Health Centers and Community Care. Additionally, Annie serves as the chair for the Nursing Scientific Review committee and co-chair for the multidisciplinary critical care Covid-19 research committee. She has facilitated establishing the first Doctoral Circle of Excellence for doctoral prepared RNs at the NYC H+H system .Annie is also a faculty of nursing at Adelphi University College of Nursing & Public Health, New York and is an inducted Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine.

Annie graduated her BSc Nursing (1999)from Father Muller’s College of Nursing, India, her MS in Nursing (2011) and PhD in nursing (2020)- both from Adelphi University college of Nursing and Public Health. Her innovative doctoral research into the world of tele-ICU nursing and the examination of tele-ICU nurses’ practice is groundbreaking as this may be the first study exploring the lived experience of their practice by identifying how tele-ICU nurses contribute to patient outcomes with information that captures the complexity and uniqueness of their critical care nursing practice in virtual settings. Her continued research focus on tele-ICU nurses’ practice with the objective of strengthening the current American Association of Critical Care Nurses’ (AACN) tele-ICU nursing practice model.

Annie is triple board certified -Critical Care (CCRN-K) Nursing Professional Development (NPD-BC), and Nurse Executive Advanced (NEA-BC). She is an appointed member of the American Nurses’ Credentialing Center (ANCC) content expert panel from 2019-2022 and is reappointed for the second term.

As a nurse researcher , Annie also serves as the Abstract reviewer for ANCC Magnet/ Pathway to Excellence Conference, and the Eastern Nursing Research Society (ENRS)conference and a peer-reviewer for Journal of ANA New York.

She has published in critical care medicine and nursing journals and also has presented at both local, national and international conferences. Annie is a NEF Scholar 2018-2019 and currently serve as NEF Board of Directors Liaison Member.

Through her collaboration with CUNY, she facilitate research projects at NYC H+H/Bellevue and Elmhurst through the NIH supported IGNITE grant. More recently, on Feb 7th, 2023, Annie is recognized as the Nurse Leader of the Year by Press Ganey Forsta Associates at the Human Experience 2023 (HX 23) Conference in Orlando Philadelphia.

Dr. Annie George was peer-nominated for this award for her overwhelming commitment to excellence and staff education as a nurse leader. Annie is an incredibly valued and important member of the nursing administration team at the nation’s largest municipal public health care system. She is empowering nurses to explore and share their thoughts, strengths and improvement ideas. Her focus on crafting a culture of nursing excellence and research across more than 70 patient care locations is fostering the next generation of front-line workers and nurse leaders. Annie also instituted the organization’s first “Doctoral Circle of Excellence” ceremony this year to recognize and celebrate 72 nurses from across the entire NYC Health + Hospitals system who have earned doctoral degrees. She is instrumental in facilitating and directing nurse-led research across the system, establishing and chairing the Scientific Review Committee, which approves all nursing doctoral projects. She also serves as co-chair of the system’s multi-disciplinary research committee on COVID-19 and other issues. She demonstrates daily a tireless commitment to engaging others in efforts to continuously improve our processes, enhance patient safety, and provide ever-increasing levels of quality health care.

Annie was honored on stage by Press Ganey executive leaders during the event.

HX23 is Press Ganey’s national client conference, which took place from February 6-8 in Orlando, Florida at Walt Disney World’s Swan and Dolphin Resort. The event draws more than 3,000 health care executives, physicians, nurses, and other professionals from across the country to learn and collaboratively explore paths toward advancing the human experience of healthcare.
