Brittney Sullivan was awarded the “Henry B. Spencer Scholarship” dedicated to leadership in nursing and health care. Brittney received her BS and MS at Boston College Connell School of Nursing and is currently a third year PhD student at Duke University School of Nursing. Ms Sullivan was also one of sixteen nurses nationwide selected to be in the first cohort of Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Future of Nursing Scholars. Beginning in high school, Brittney spent time volunteering locally and had her first experience volunteering abroad in Bolivia. Subsequently, she continued short-term immersion trips throughout Latin America, the Caribbean, and sub-Saharan Africa which set her career trajectory towards global research.

Prior to pursuing her PhD, Brittney worked as a pediatric nurse practitioner for three years in the Boston area serving children and youth from diverse backgrounds both in inpatient and outpatient settings. In 2013, she moved to Malawi, Africa volunteering with the U.S. Peace Corps/Seed Global Health as a Nurse Educator working with the nursing faculty at Mzuzu University to strengthen the health system of the country. Her dissertation focuses on examining age appropriate treatment for individuals in South Africa with drug-resistant tuberculosis and HIV. Brittney plans to continue researching in low resourced settings with high disease burdens to generate new knowledge and translate this knowledge into practice.
