Courtney Omary, awarded the Lucy C. Perry Scholarship for Public Health, is an IT Clinical Strategy Consultant at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia. Focused on clinician adoption and satisfaction, Courtney assists Augusta University Medical Center in optimizing care delivery processes, establishing governance and communication structures, improving behavior change management, achieving performance improvement and driving measurable outcomes both inside and outside the electronic health record (EHR).
Courtney holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing from University of Maryland, Baltimore. She also holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Industrial Management from Carnegie Mellon University. She has an Applied Health Informatics Certificate and a Master’s of Science in Nursing in Healthcare Administration from Johns Hopkins University. Courtney is board certified in Nursing Informatics by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is currently a DNP student at Emory University’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing and licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Georgia.
Prior to joining Augusta University, Courtney was a Senior Clinical Strategist for the Cerner Corporation. Before joining Cerner, Courtney was part of the Clinical Content Knowledge Management team as a Clinical Content Manager at MedStar Health in the Baltimore/Washington DC area. In this role, she provided leadership and direction to the development of interdisciplinary care planning with evidence-based practice and change management in the electronic health record. Prior to MedStar, Courtney was a Clinical Analyst for WellDoc in Baltimore, MD. In this role, she translated clinical requirements into technical requirements for mobile health application development. In more than 10 years of clinical experience, Courtney developed expertise in Clinical Informatics, Critical Care, Medical Surgical and Procedural nursing practice.
Courtney's experience in critical care gave her insight into clinical workflow and healthcare issues common across patient populations. Her informatics training has provided exposure to information systems, information science and data analysis. As a DNP student, these skill sets, in addition to new skills learned in the DNP curriculum, will allow Courtney to make an impact on population health using data from an EHR. Her DNP project is a DNP Quality Improvement Toolkit to guide best practice for doctoral nurse students at a hospital affiliated university to access and manage EHR data in quality improvement initiatives.
Courtney has also co-taught at Augusta University, College of Nursing since relocating to Georgia and recently took a part-time position as Assistant Professor. She co-teaches Management of Health Information Systems in their DNP curriculum and Immersion in Primary Care Nursing to pre-licensure nursing students as part of the HRSA ReCAP Clinical Partnership grant.
