Daniel Stanley, the recipient of the esteemed NEF Joanne V. Pontier Scholarship, has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his academic journey. His achievements include a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Campbell University, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Duke University, a Master of Health Administration from Pfeiffer University, and a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from the University of North Carolina (UNC) – Charlotte. Currently, he is pursuing further education in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) – Health Systems Executive Leadership program at the University of Pittsburgh, a testament to his dedication and desire for knowledge.

Daniel’s decision to pursue nursing was not just a career choice, but a deeply personal and meaningful one. His motivation was rooted in a profound desire to make a tangible difference in people's lives, inspired by the compassionate care nurses provided to his family during health crises. His work is not just a job, but a deeply fulfilling calling, where he can work closely with patients, advocate for their needs, and contribute to their recovery.

Daniel chose to pursue a DNP at the University of Pittsburgh because of its prestigious reputation and unwavering commitment to excellence in nursing education. The university's comprehensive curriculum and renowned faculty provided an ideal advanced learning and professional growth environment. He was particularly drawn to the program's emphasis on evidence-based practice, leadership, and healthcare innovation. This combination made the University of Pittsburgh the perfect choice for Daniel's DNP journey.

Daniel began his nursing journey as a new graduate Registered Nurse (RN) in the Duke University Emergency Department (ED) in February 2015. In October 2020, he embarked on a new chapter in Richmond, Virginia, as an ED Assistant Nurse Manager at the Central Virginia VA Healthcare System. Demonstrating his versatility, in February 2023, Daniel returned to North Carolina, assuming the role of the ED Nurse Manager for the Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Healthcare System. Daniel’s DNP project is entitled: Decreasing Emergency Department Door-to-Disposition Times Through the Implementation of a Triage Training Reeducation Program. This quality improvement project aims to decrease door-to-disposition times in the ED and improve the accuracy of nursing triage assessments of patients presenting to the ED through an educational intervention.

Daniel firmly believes obtaining a DNP will be a transformative step in his career. It will equip him with the necessary skills and knowledge to take on leadership roles in healthcare settings, driving significant improvements in patient care and outcomes. The degree will enhance his ability to implement evidence-based practices, influence healthcare policy, and enable him to contribute to innovative solutions in clinical practice.
