The M. Louise Fitzpatrick Scholarship recipient began her career in nursing with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, in 1994. She then went on to complete a Master of Education at Lakehead University in 2001, and then a Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Ottawa in 2007.

Jennifer has extensive clinical experience in psychiatric nursing and emergency nursing, becoming a Certified Emergency Nurse from the Canadian Emergency Nurses Association. She has been in clinical nursing administrative positions as Clinical Coordinator in transitional care, Assistant Director of Nursing in long-term care, Nurse Manager of emergency services and Clinical Director of med/surg. She has held faculty positions, teaching emergency nursing specialty and pre-licensure nursing courses. Jennifer currently serves as the Director of Nursing at Century College in White Bear Lake, MN.

Jennifer maintains her lifelong learning and career in nursing while raising five children who range in age from 2 to 16 years old. She is also a Veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy, having served as one of the first women in Canada in a combat occupation.

In 2013, Jennifer started another chapter of her education in the Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing degree program at the University of North Dakota. Jennifer’s research is focused on nursing leadership and how this affects patient outcomes. Her goal is to use nursing research and education to consistently transform support for nurses and nurse executives in meeting the growing healthcare needs of the population.

NEF’s only purpose is to provide nursing scholarship assistance to make graduate level nursing education possible. NEF is the largest, single, private, professionally endorsed source of funds for advanced nursing study with over one hundred years of service to and for professional nursing.

NEF’s Board of Directors is comprised of leaders from nursing, education, technology, and business communities. Members donate their time and talent to the advancement of the nursing profession. NEF operates with exceptionally low overhead. NEF employs only one individual who serves in several capacities. NEF is a non-profit organization with 501(c) status; thus, your contributions are fully tax-deductible.
