Kelsey Baffour-Addo is a proud recipient of the NEF Allison Adams Wieczorek Scholarship for Maternal-Infant and Pediatric Nursing. She is currently a second-year student in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at Columbia University School of Nursing. Her academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in public health from Temple University, followed by a Master of Public Health from the CUNY School of Public Health and Health Policy. She started her nursing education at Columbia University, earning a Master of Science in nursing and is now completing her doctoral program in family nursing practice.
Throughout her academic career, she has been dedicated to maternal child health and focused on addressing women's health outcomes through multiple thesis projects, including research on postpartum mood disorders and strategies to reduce maternal mortality disparities in the United States. She also gained experience with the Centers for Disease Control’s Public Health Law Program, where she explored the intersection of women's health law, policy, and public health outcomes, resulting in a mini course outline and a co-author role in a journal publication.
In addition to her academic pursuits, she has worked in the homecare industry, specializing in quality improvement and compliance. She has been actively involved in health education and program facilitation. Her desire to provide direct patient care led her to pursue nursing, merging her foundation in public health with clinical management. Currently, she works as a registered nurse, delivering safe and compassionate care to mothers and newborns on the postpartum unit while completing her studies.
Her pursuit of a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Family Health aims to open doors to advanced clinical family care, and leadership roles in public health, research, policy, and advocacy. Receiving the Allison Adams Wieczorek Scholarship reinforces her commitment to the nursing community and inspires her to continue growing within the field, with a dedication to supporting future nurse leaders and giving back to the profession.
