Linda Armstrong is a recipient of the Columbia University-Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association, Inc. J. Margaret Ada Mutch Scholarship. Linda is pursuing a master’s degree to become a Family Nurse Practitioner, subspecializing in oncology at Columbia University School of Nursing. Linda received her undergraduate degree in Biology at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. While working for two years as an assistant with a team of clinicians at Compass Oncology in Portland, Oregon, Linda found that she deeply identified with the characteristics of the oncology nurses and decided to pursue a career in nursing.

Linda currently works as a Home Health RN with pediatric patients, and is involved in her school as a Peer Leader and President of the Oncology Nursing of Columbia University Student Organization that she founded. Linda is especially interested in utilizing the resources of the student organization to promote professional development for students interested in careers in oncology nursing.

After losing her mother to cancer at an early age, Linda has developed an interest in improving outcomes in oncology treatment, specifically reducing barriers to participation in cancer clinical trials. She aims to help minorities and underserved populations access the latest research in cancer treatment, screening, and prevention. Linda hopes to use her skills as an NP to provide direct patient care while contributing to research. In the future, Linda hopes to pursue a doctorate to further develop her research and clinical skills so that she is able to contribute more to nursing research focused on improving outcomes for patients.
