For Columbia University School of Nursing Students and Alumni
Since 1892, the Columbia University Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association, Inc. (CUPHSONAA) has served all graduates of the School of Nursing of the Presbyterian Hospital in the City of New York, all graduates of the Columbia University School of Nursing, and all members of the unincorporated body known as the "Alumnae Association of the Presbyterian Hospital Training School for Nurses in the City of New York." CUPHSONAA donated $50,000 to Nurses Educational Funds, Inc. (NEF) in 2006 to create an endowed scholarship in honor of J. Margaret Ada Mutch's 100th birthday. Ms. Mutch served in World War II as a member of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, directing nursing in Army hospitals in the European Theater of Operations. With a master's degree, she earned the positions of assistant director of nursing and assistant professor of nursing at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. She was instrumental in helping to forge the bond between Presbyterian Hospital and Columbia University beginning in the late 1930s. She had the vision to understand educational trends and the needs of the nursing profession.
Preference for this scholarship award is given to a Columbia University School of Nursing student or alumnus.

Kortney Johnson, BSN, RN, CCRN
- Spent six years at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center caring for critically ill neurological patients facing strokes, encephalitis, and traumatic brain injuries
- Crafted a doctoral project on expanding Focused Cardiac Ultrasound (FoCUS) education for anesthesia providers to improve intraoperative cardiac assessments
- Serves as the Columbia Representative for the Nurse Anesthesia Resident Association and has been the Advocacy Chair for the Emerging Leaders Alliance since 2021
- Mentors prospective students through mock interviews and essay critiques
Sergine Delma, DNP-FNP
- Worked as a palliative oncology nurse at Mass General Brigham and later served as a hospice liaison and quality manager at VNS Health in New York City
- Conducted research on reducing stigmatizing language in nursing documentation using artificial intelligence tools, resulting in her poster on artificial intelligence in diabetes prediction and management being selected for presentation at the Sigma International Nursing Research Congress
- Served as a Columbia University Senator and co-founded the Columbia Nursing Pathways Collective, co-chaired the student committee of the Greater New York City Black Nurses Association, and lobbied on Capitol Hill with the AANP for full practice authority for nurse practitioners
- Participated in global service trips, delivering health education in Kenya and offering health screenings to families at the U.S.–Mexico border
Mobolaji “Mobo” Odewole, MPH, MS, NP, RN
- Worked as a clinical research project manager at Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women’s Hospital studying Asthma, and as a Research Project Manager at UT Southwestern Medical Center studying liver cirrhosis and liver oncology
- Worked at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in the COVID-19 unit and as a clinical nurse on the Surgical Spine Step-Down unit as both preceptor and charge nurse
- Served in leadership positions at Columbia University School of Nursing as President of Student Council, Student Ambassador, and Peer Mentor, and participated in various university committees in addition to his teaching assistant position
- Published/co-authored over 13 peer-reviewed publications in various journals such as Clinical Gastroenterology Hepatology, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutic
